Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive requires owners/operators of all Douglas DC3 series aeroplanes to inspect elevator hinge arms, ribs and rear beams for cracks and local damage and to correct defects—polish or replace rivets for minor damage, or replace components for cracks or severe damage (an alternative procedure is referenced).

Implementation and defect-sizing judgments sit with maintenance personnel; the rule boosts safety for affected aircraft but imposes inspection, repair costs and likely aircraft downtime.
