Plain English Summary

5/10 complexity

Mandates inspections and corrective rework of the main rotor mast on Eurocopter SA 365 helicopters fitted with specified mast part numbers, using Aerospatiale Service Bulletin 05.08 Rev 2 procedures. Operators must perform initial and recurring visual inspections at specified flight‑hour or calendar intervals and after events (for example, sudden tracking defects or work on MRH bolts/nuts); operators bear the compliance cost and must repair defects to prevent fatigue cracking, per the manufacturer's advice.

Background: The manufacturer advises the need to inspect the mast for corrosion pits, tool marks and fretting to preclude the possibility of fatigue cracking. This Directive has been amended to include additional inspections. This Amendment further extends the 300 hourly inspection to 400 hours to align with Revision 2 of the SB.
