What it does
AD/CRESCO/11 is a mandatory airworthiness directive issued on 5 January 2007 by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) under the delegate authority of David Villiers, effective 15 February 2007. It imposes four inspection, replacement and rework requirements on the nose wheel steering assembly of Pacific Aerospace Corporation (PAC) Cresco 08-600 series aeroplanes when those aircraft are operated on restricted category agricultural operations and are fitted with nose wheel steering pivot pin part number (P/N) 08-45711-1. The directive was triggered by multiple reports received by the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority of cracked nose wheel steering pivot pins on these aircraft. Mechanically, the AD requires (1) periodic inspection of the nose wheel steering operation and torque link attachment for wear and cracks, with replacement or re-bushing before further flight if limits are exceeded (2) inspection of the shimmy damper unit for security and damage, with replacement or adjustment before further flight (3) removal and magnetic particle inspection of the pivot pin P/N 08-45711-1 using an approved method equivalent to ASTM Standard No. E-1444, with replacement before further flight if cracking is found (4) inspection of the steering tube assembly and end fitting for cracks using the same magnetic particle method, with replacement before further flight if cracked. Each requirement carries its own compliance horizon measured in hours time in service or landings, with recurring intervals thereafter. The AD also refers to specific chapters and pages of the PAC Cresco 08-600 Maintenance Manual and includes notes on cotter pin alignment, pilot shimmy incident investigation, steering damper adjustment, and the ASTM standard. It references the contemporaneous New Zealand CAA AD DCA/CRESCO/11. No AD/CRESCO/11 amendments appear in the source text; the directive is original and self-contained.
