What it does
This instrument is an Airworthiness Directive titled AD/CL-600/95 (4/2008 DM) addressing the internal wiring of the air-driven generator (ADG) installed on Bombardier (Canadair) CL-600-2B19 (Challenger) aeroplanes. Mechanically it does three things.
First, it mandates an inspection of the ADG serial number (S/N) against the list in Bombardier Aerospace Service Bulletin (SB) 601R-24-113, Revision A, dated 11 August 2005, or a later revision approved by the Chief, Continuing Airworthiness, Transport Canada (this is “Requirement 1.a” in the directive). If the ADG S/N is listed in the SB, the AD requires inspection of the ADG identification plate for the marking “24-2” (para 1.b). If the plate does not show “24-2”, the AD requires modification of the ADG internal wiring in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions in SB 601R-24-113, Revision A, or a later approved revision (para 1.c). The AD explicitly allows compliance by prior performance of the SB original issue (22 April 2004) or Revision A if the ADG has not been replaced since that SB was incorporated (Note 1). It also permits operators to satisfy Requirement 1 by review of aircraft maintenance records rather than physical inspection (Note 2).
Second, it places an installation restriction on replacement ADGs (Requirement 2). ADGs of part numbers 604-90800-1 (761339C), 604-90800-17 (761339D) or 604-90800-19 (761339E) that have S/Ns listed in Table 1 of the directive may not be installed as replacement spares on the affected aeroplanes unless the ADG identification plate is marked with the symbol “24-2” (as referenced to Hamilton Sundstrand SB ERPS10AG-24-2).
Third, the AD sets compliance timing. For Requirement 1 the deadline is within 12 months after the directive’s effective date. For Requirement 2 the restriction is effective immediately as of the directive’s effective date. The AD’s effective date is 21 February 2008, and the directive was signed by a CASA delegate on 13 February 2008.
