Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive requires operators of Bombardier CL-600-2B19 aircraft (serials 7003 onward) with specified windshield part numbers and fewer than 2,500 flight cycles to inspect the aft edge of each main windshield for a placard and, if the placard is missing, replace nine lower‑forward hi‑lok pins with reduced‑shank pins per Bombardier Service Bulletin 601R‑56‑004. The stated aim (Transport Canada) is to reduce windshield failure risk; operators must complete the work by 31 October 2002 and bear inspection and modification costs.

Applicability: Model CL-600-2B19 aircraft, serial numbers 7003 and subsequent, which are equipped with windshield part numbers 601R33033-1, -2, -5, -6, -9, and -10, and which have accumulated less than 2,500 flight cycles.

Requirement: Accomplish the following in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Bombardier Service Bulletin 601R-56-004, dated 16 August 2001.

Inspect the aft edge of the left and right main windshields to determine whether part number CSB-NP-139321-002-1 placard is installed.

For windshields equipped with this placard, no further action is required.

2. Any windshield not equipped with a placard per Requirement 1 must be modified by replacing nine of the existing hi-lok pins installed in the lower forward corner of the windshield, with reduced shank diameter hi-lok pins.

Note 1: It has been determined that the risk of windshield failure is higher for windshields with low flight cycles. Therefore, Transport Canada recommends first accomplishment on windshields with the least number of flight cycles.

Note 2: Transport Canada AD CF-2001-35R1 refers.

Compliance: Before 31 October 2002, unless already accomplished.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 27 December 2001.
