Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety order (Airworthiness Directive) for specific Bombardier Regional Jet aircraft.

The problem: The fire warning system can trigger false alarms because fluids can leak into the Fire and Overheat Control Unit, potentially distracting pilots during flight.

Who must act: Owners or operators of CL-600-2B19 "Regional Jet" aircraft with serial numbers 7003 through 7067, and 7069 through 7422.

What must be done: Install protective sealing tape on the Fire and Overheat Control Unit, following the manufacturer's instructions in Bombardier Alert Service Bulletin A601R-26-017 (Revision A).

Deadline: Complete the fix within 250 flying hours or 30 days after 21 February 2001, whichever happens first.

Why it matters: This prevents false fire warnings that could lead to unnecessary emergency shutdowns, while ensuring the system still detects real fires.
