Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive mandates a safety inspection for specific Bombardier Challenger 600 series aircraft (serial numbers 1005–1008, 1010–1050, 1057, and 1058).

What it requires: Before an Australian Certificate of Airworthiness can be issued for these planes, operators must perform a "clearance check" between the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) load control valve and the APU enclosure front panel.

Why it matters: If these parts rub together (interfere), they could wear down (erode) the fire containment barrier. This could allow a fire in the APU compartment to spread to other parts of the aircraft. The check ensures adequate spacing between components to maintain fire safety standards and protect passengers and crew.

Background: A clearance check is required between the APU load control and the APU enclosure front panel. Interference between these components could cause sufficient local erosion to invalidate the fire containment capability of the APU enclosure.
