Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety check for specific Bombardier CL-600 Challenger jets (serial numbers 1004–1085).

The problem: The elevator control cables (which help steer the plane up and down) might be rubbing against or snagging on the autopilot wiring. If these cables get tangled with the wiring, the pilot could lose control of the aircraft's pitch (up/down movement).

What must be done: Aircraft owners or operators must inspect the elevator cables following the manufacturer's Service Bulletin 600-0522. If they find any interference (called "fouling"), they must fix it immediately using the remedy specified in that bulletin.

Who is affected: Anyone operating the CL-600-1A11 model aircraft with serial numbers between 1004 and 1085.

Deadline: The inspection must be completed within 100 hours of flight time after 3 November 1988, or before the aircraft is issued a Certificate of Airworthiness (whichever comes first).
