Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This airworthiness directive requires operators of specified Bombardier CL-600 (Challenger) aircraft to inspect aileron and elevator flutter dampers following Canadair Alert Wire TA 600-000-32/194 Rev 1, and to meet repeat inspection intervals that depend on damper part number and inspection indication. It affects operators of the listed CL-600 variants and imposes scheduled inspection, tracking and corrective-action costs to reduce the risk of flutter if two hydraulic systems fail.

Dampers P/Nos 600-75134-7 and 600-75135-3, that indicated green at the last inspection: At intervals of 200 hours time in service or 6 months, whichever occurs first.

b. Dampers P/Nos 600-75134-9 and 600-75135-5, that indicated green at the last inspection: At intervals of 300 hours time in service or 12 months, whichever occurs first.

Background: A number of aileron and elevator flutter dampers have been found to be leaking in service, which could render them unserviceable. This could permit flutter to occur in the event of the failure of any two hydraulic systems.
