Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: This is a safety directive requiring owners or operators of specific Bombardier Challenger aircraft to modify the engine fuel system before the aircraft can be certified as airworthy in Australia.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Bombardier (Canadair) CL-600 series aircraft with serial numbers 1004 to 1083.

What must be done: The bolts holding the engine fuel feed tube (the pipe carrying fuel to the engine) to the fuel shut-off valve must be replaced and fitted with positive locking (a mechanical lock to prevent bolts from coming loose).

When: This modification must be completed before the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) issues an Australian Certificate of Airworthiness for the aircraft.

Why it matters: This prevents fuel leaks caused by loose bolts, which could lead to engine failure or fire.
