What it does
This instrument is an Airworthiness Directive (AD) titled AD/CL-600/100, dated 7/2008, directed at specified Bombardier (Canadair) CL-600 Challenger series aeroplanes. The AD requires physical modification or inspection and possible replacement of fuel tube couplings inside fuel tanks to address electrical bonding and lightning-current capability deficiencies identified by Bombardier Aerospace. The mandatory actions are prescribed to be accomplished in accordance with Bombardier Service Bulletin (SB) 670BA-28-014, Revision A, dated 7 May 2007, or later revisions approved by the Chief, Continuing Airworthiness, Transport Canada.
Mechanically, the AD sets out two alternative work streams depending on the aircraft’s modification status at the time of compliance:
- For aircraft that have not incorporated the original issue of SB 670BA-28-014, the AD mandates replacement of the fuel tube couplings inside the wing and centre fuel tanks with redesigned couplings, following Part A of the Accomplishment Instructions of SB 670BA-28-014, Revision A.
- For aircraft that have already incorporated the original issue of SB 670BA-28-014, the AD mandates inspection of the aft scavenge ejector fuel couplings inside the left-hand and right-hand wing fuel tanks and replacement with redesigned couplings if necessary, following Part B of the Accomplishment Instructions of SB 670BA-28-014, Revision A.
The AD specifies the affected fleet by serial number ranges: CL-600-2C10 aircraft serial numbers 10003 through 10169, and CL-600-2D24 aircraft serial numbers 15001 through 15025. It prescribes a compliance time of within 4,500 flight hours after the AD’s effective date, and the AD becomes effective on 3 July 2008. The document explicitly refers to Transport Canada AD CF-2008-02 (3 January 2008) as related material. The AD is signed by James Coyne, Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
