AD/CHA/19 - Flap Stage Advisory Plate - CANCELLED

This instrument cancels an old aircraft safety rule that required owners of American Champion aeroplanes to relocate a warning label about wing flaps.

Background: In 1978, authorities issued a rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) requiring relocation of the flap stage advisory plate—a label that tells pilots the position of the wing flaps. The original plate was hard to see because it was physically blocked by the fuel selector handle and the flap control lever. Aircraft owners had to complete this modification within 100 hours of flying time after May 1978.

Why it is being cancelled: Since the compliance deadline passed over 30 years ago, every affected aircraft would have been modified by now. The rule is therefore redundant.

What this means: As of 7 May 2009, owners of American Champion (Aeronca, Bellanca) series aircraft no longer need to comply with, or keep records relating to, the original 1978 directive.
