Plain English Summary

6/10 complexity

Requires operators of CFM56-3/-3B/-3C and CFM56-5 engines to inspect the forward sump magnetic plug (chip detector) for contamination and, if contamination is found, determine its magnitude and source and follow the Boeing or Airbus maintenance manual procedures or an Authority‑agreed action. Inspections are mandated at short, part‑number‑ and time‑since‑new–dependent intervals with a 5‑hour planning tolerance and exemptions for certain bearings after 6,000 hours. Operators pay for inspections and repairs; the Civil Aviation Safety Authority sets compliance and may approve alternatives.
