Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

Mechanically, this Directive requires operators and maintainers of specified CFM56 engines to amend their Engine Shop Manuals’ Airworthiness Limitations Sections and perform the mandatory inspections set out in FAA AD 2002-13-03, with compliance within 30 days (effective 5 September 2002). It applies to airlines, maintenance organisations and engine owners, who bear the cost and operational burden of adding and carrying out those inspections. The CASA delegate issued the requirement under CAR 1998 subreg 39.1(1) to reduce the risk of uncontained failures of life-limited rotating engine parts.
