What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD/CFE 738/1, dated 1 February 2006 and effective 16 March 2006) imposes mandatory life limits on specified high pressure compressor (HPC) rotor components fitted to CFE Company Model CFE738-1-1B turbofan engines. The AD instructs operators to "remove from service certain stage 4 and 5 blisks and impeller aft shafts prior to exceeding the new cyclic life limits" and to replace them "with serviceable parts" (Requirement 1). The directive lists precise part numbers and the corresponding cyclic life limits expressed as cycles since new (CSN).
The specified parts and their CSN limits are (as stated in the AD):
- Stage 4 and 5 Blisk, P/N 6079T74P08: 6,700 CSN.
- Impeller Aft Shaft, P/N 6079T80P04: 5,100 CSN.
- Impeller Aft Shaft, P/N 6079T80P05: 2,160 CSN.
- Impeller Aft Shaft, P/N 6079T80P06: 7,100 CSN.
- Impeller Aft Shaft, P/N 6079T80P07: 7,100 CSN.
Applicability is expressly limited to "CFE Company Model CFE738-1-1B turbofan engines" and the AD notes these engines are installed on, but not limited to, Dassault Falcon 2000 series aeroplanes (Applicability and Note 1). The AD cross-references FAA AD 2000-23-12 Amdt 39-11982 (Note 2), and the background statement explains the AD was prompted by "a reduction in the calculated service life of certain compressor rotor rotating parts to values below currently approved service lives" with the stated aim to prevent failure that could lead to an uncontained engine failure and aeroplane damage.
Mechanically, the instrument changes the approved service lives of the enumerated parts to the CSN limits in the table, requires removal prior to exceeding those limits, and requires replacement with serviceable parts. It becomes binding on the stated effective date, 16 March 2006.
