What it does
This AD (AD/CF6/51 Amdt 2, LPT Shroud - Replacement, 17/2010) requires operators of specified General Electric CF6-50 and CF6-80C2 engines to take the replacement actions set out in the referenced requirement document, which implements the measures of FAA Airworthiness Directive 2003-02-07 (Amdt 39-13024) as adopted for Australian registry matters. The Directive expressly approves certain alternate means of compliance (AMOCs) identified in the manufacturer's Service Bulletin CF6-80C2 S/B 72-1224 dated 17 August 2006. It also accepts later revisions of that Service Bulletin if those revisions have been approved by the United States Federal Aviation Administration as AMOCs to FAA AD 2003-02-07. The instrument records that Amendment 1 previously added alternative means of compliance, and that Amendment 2 (this amendment) notates acceptance of later revisions of the manufacturer’s data that are approved as AMOCs.
Mechanically, the Directive does three things in the text provided:
- It incorporates, by reference, the FAA AD 2003-02-07 as the operative set of requirements to be complied with, directing action per the requirement document (Requirement: "Action per the requirements of FAA AD 2003-02-07, Amdt 39-13024").
- It identifies specific part numbers from the manufacturer that are approved as alternate means of compliance, namely stage 2 LPT shroud 2083M12G02 and stage 3 LPT shroud 2083M13G02 (approved as AMOC to paragraph (b) of FAA AD 2003-02-07), and stage 2 LPT shroud 2092M11G01 (approved as AMOC to paragraph (a) of FAA AD 2003-02-07) when used in conjunction with specified LPT cases 1647M68G15, 2083M94G16, or 1647M68G18.
- It sets the effective date for this Amendment as 3 September 2010 (text: "This Amendment becomes effective on 3 September 2010"), and records the delegate who issued it, Mike Higgins of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, dated 24 August 2010.
