Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive orders operators of certain General Electric CF6-6, -45, -50, -80A and -80C2 engines (identified by serial numbers in specified GE Alert Service Bulletins) to carry out an ultrasonic immersion inspection of Stage 1 fan disks and to remove and replace any disks found cracked. Compliance is mandatory before the next flight. The regulator cites discovered cracks in disks made in late 1984–early 1985 and says the inspections aim to prevent uncontained engine failure.
