What it does
This instrument is Amendment 1 to Airworthiness Directive AD/CESSNA 750/2, issued by a delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) on 2 February 2007 and effective 15 March 2007. It amends a pre-existing mandatory directive for Cessna Model 750 (Citation X) series aeroplanes concerning chafing of the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) fuel tube assembly in the tail cone area. Mechanically, the amendment does three things. First, it expands the applicability from serial numbers -0001 through -0240 to serial numbers -0001 through -0256 inclusive, thereby bringing an additional 16 aircraft (serials -0241 to -0256) under the directive. Second, it introduces a terminating action: modifying the fuel line installation in accordance with Cessna Service Bulletin (SB) 750-49-12 Revision 1 dated 3 August 2006 (or later FAA approved revision). Once performed, this modification ends the requirement for repetitive inspections that would otherwise continue indefinitely. Third, for already-covered serial numbers the underlying requirements remain: a detailed inspection for clearance and chafing of the APU fuel tube, corrective action if chafing is found, and for certain serial numbers (-0001 through -0031 and -0033 through -0107) replacement of the APU fuel tube with a new part (Part Number 6756605-23). The amendment also supersedes AD 2005-09-01 and cross-references FAA AD 2006-24-01. The background notes that there have been reports of chafed APU fuel tubes leaking into the tail cone area due to interference with elevator flight control cables, hydraulic lines, and high temperature bleed air couplings. The area contains ignition sources and lacks fire detection or extinguishing provisions. The AD mandates these actions to mitigate the risk of a fuel leak and subsequent fire that could lead to loss of the aircraft. The original directive became effective on 25 May 2005; this Amendment 1 is the first revision, adding aircraft and providing a means to terminate repeated inspections.
