Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this means: If you own or operate a Cessna 650 (Citation III) aircraft, you must inspect the fuel pipe (called the "main fuel manifold") on the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) — that's the small engine that provides power when the main engines are off.

Why: The fuel manifold can crack or break, spraying fuel onto the hot APU and potentially causing a fire.

What you must do:

Follow the inspection steps in Cessna Service Letter SL650-49-17 and Sunstrand Power Systems Service Bulletin SB-T-62-T-49-74 (these are technical manuals referenced by the law)
Do the first inspection within 10 days of the directive taking effect
Then repeat the inspection every 50 hours the APU runs

Who is affected: Owners and operators of Cessna 650 series aircraft.

AD/CESSNA650/2 Airborne Auxiliary Power - Inspection

of Main Fuel Manifold

Applicability: Cessna 650 (Citation III) Series.

13/90

Requirement: Action Cessna Service Letter SL650-49-17 which refers to Sunstrand Power Systems Service Bulletin SB-T-62-T-49-74.

Compliance: Effective 27 December 1990. Within 10 days, and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 50 hours of APU operation.

Background: Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) models listed in SB-T-62T-49-74 could possibly have breakage/leakage of the main fuel manifold. Cracking and/or breakage of the main fuel manifold has been reported. This may result in fuel being sprayed onto the APU resulting in the possibility of fire.
