Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

What this does

This is an aviation safety rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) that sets a "use-by date" for landing gear parts on specific Cessna business jets—the 500 and 501 series (also known as Citation aircraft).

Who it affects

Owners, operators, and maintenance crews of these aircraft.

What it requires

Landing gear components must be permanently removed from service once they reach a specific age or number of flight cycles. Rather than listing the exact time limits in the rule itself, this directive points operators to Chapter 5 of the Cessna Maintenance Manual (the September 1971 edition with 1980 updates) to find the specific retirement schedule for each part.

Why it matters

Landing gear undergoes extreme stress during takeoff and landing. This rule prevents catastrophic structural failures caused by metal fatigue by ensuring components are retired before they become unsafe.
