Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: An Airworthiness Directive (AD) — a mandatory safety rule issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) requiring specific repairs or modifications to aircraft.

What it requires: Owners of certain Cessna 500 (Citation) business jets must modify the centre flap aft bearing (a component in the wing flap system that helps control the aircraft during takeoff and landing). The exact modification procedure is found in Cessna Service Bulletin 57-3.

Who is affected: Only Cessna 500 aircraft with serial numbers 500-0001 through 500-0069 (the first 69 aircraft built).

When it must be done: Before the aircraft can be issued a Certificate of Airworthiness — meaning this modification is a prerequisite for the aircraft to be legally permitted to fly.

Why it matters: This prevents potential mechanical failure in the flap system, which is critical for safe landing and takeoff operations.
