Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a mandatory safety order (called an Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for certain Cessna business jets.

What it requires: Owners and operators of specific Cessna 500 aircraft (serial numbers 500-0001 through 500-0239) must modify the glideslope interlock — a safety component of the instrument landing system that helps guide aircraft during approach to landing.

How to comply: The modification must be performed exactly as described in Cessna Service Bulletin 34-27 (the manufacturer's official technical instructions for this repair).

When to comply: The work must be completed within 100 hours of flight time after 30 September 1975.

Why it matters: Airworthiness Directives are legally enforceable. Non-compliance grounds the aircraft — it cannot legally fly in Australian airspace until the modification is done. This directive addresses a specific safety issue with the landing guidance system to prevent approach and landing accidents.
