Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive (AD) is a mandatory safety instruction for specific Cessna aircraft. What it requires: Owners and operators must inspect the elevator torque tube fitting—a critical mechanical part that connects the pilot's control inputs to the elevator (the flap on the tail that makes the plane go up or down). Which aircraft are affected: Cessna 401, 402, and 411 series planes with specific serial numbers (generally older models manufactured before 1971). When to comply: The inspection must be done within 100 hours of flying time after 30 June 1971. Why it matters: This prevents potential failures in the flight control system that could cause loss of control. The directive references Cessna Service Letter ME71-8 for the exact inspection procedure.
