Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive (AD) is a mandatory safety order for aircraft owners. What it requires: Operators of Cessna 400 series aeroplanes must inspect the elevator torque tube—a critical component that transmits the pilot's control inputs to the elevator (the part of the tail that makes the plane climb or dive). Who it affects: All specific models listed in Cessna Service Letter ME70-25. When: The inspection must be completed within 100 hours of flight time (called "time in service") after 30 September 1970. Why it matters: This prevents potential structural failures in the flight control system that could lead to loss of aircraft control. The directive references a manufacturer service letter (SL ME70-25) for technical details on how to perform the inspection.
