What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD) mandates inspection and, where necessary, replacement of certain Tyco Electronics avionics bus circuit breaker switches installed on Cessna Model 400 series aeroplanes. The Directive applies to a defined set of Cessna Model 400-series types and serial-number ranges and targets specific part numbers (P/N) for the avionics bus circuit breaker switch: CM3589-50, 593-250-101, 593-250-102, W31-X2M5A-50 and W31-X1000-50 (Applicability). Mechanically, the AD requires operators to inspect the circuit breaker to determine the P/N and date code in accordance with the Cessna service bulletins identified in the Directive and the applicable maintenance manual (Requirement 1). If a unit of the listed P/N has no date code, the AD requires replacement with a CM3589-50 dated 0434 or later before further flight (Requirement 2). For listed P/Ns that do have a date code earlier than 0434, the part is assigned a safe-life limit of 1,000 hours time in service (TIS) and must be replaced within that limit with a CM3589-50 dated 0434 or later (Requirement 3). The AD also prohibits, from the effective date, installation as a replacement spare of any of the affected P/Ns that have no date code or have a date code earlier than 0434 (Requirement 4). The AD becomes effective on 22 December 2005 and was issued by a CASA delegate on 10 November 2005.
The Directive cross-references two Cessna service bulletins as the inspection and replacement procedural documents. For Models 425 and 441, it directs use of Cessna Conquest Service Bulletin CQB05-2 dated 21 February 2005 together with the applicable maintenance manual. For all other affected models it directs use of Cessna Multi-engine Service Bulletin MEB05-1 dated 21 February 2005 and the applicable maintenance manual (Requirement 1a,b; Requirement 2a,b). The AD notes that later revisions of those service bulletins, if approved by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Alternate Method of Compliance (AMOC) to FAA AD 2005-20-25, are acceptable for compliance with this Directive.
