Plain English Summary

4/10 complexity

Requires owners/operators of specified Cessna 400-series aeroplanes to inspect main landing gear side‑brace upper support bolts for correct torque, clean and closely inspect the main landing gear wheel‑well ribs per Cessna Service Letter ME76-2, and visually examine the wing upper skin in the overwing baggage locker for cracking. Initial inspections must occur within set time limits and then every 100 hours; installing Service Kit SK414-8E or an Authority‑approved repair ends the inspection requirement.

This affects private and commercial operators and maintenance providers who pay for inspections and any repairs, and gives the Civil Aviation Safety Authority discretion to accept repair schemes (see Requirement; Compliance).

Installation of Cessna Service Kit SK414-8E or repair to a scheme acceptable to the Authority cancels the Requirement of this Directive.

Background: There have been five reports of cracking of main landing gear wheel well ribs on Australian registered aircraft.
