Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive requires owners and operators of specific Cessna 310 aircraft to repeatedly inspect the lower wing skin rivets for safety issues.

Who is affected: Owners of Cessna 310 model aircraft with serial numbers between 310Q0714 and 310R0836.

What must be done: Every time the aircraft undergoes inspection for a Maintenance Release (the official certificate saying the plane is safe to fly) after 3 October 1991, mechanics must check the lower wing skin rivets where they attach to the front spar. If any rivets are loose or "working" (moving), repairs must be carried out according to Cessna Service Letter ME77-6.

Why this matters: Loose rivets in the wing structure can lead to serious structural failure. This directive was updated because older repairs are hard to identify visually, and the bonding materials deteriorate over time—meaning one inspection isn't enough; ongoing checks are necessary to keep these aircraft safe.

Amdt 3

Lower Wing Skin Rivets 10/91

Applicability: All model 310 with S/Nos. 310Q0714 to 310R0836. Requirement: Action in accordance with Cessna SL ME77-6.

Compliance: At each inspection for Maintenance Release issued after 3 October 1991. The compliance date of the previous issue of this Directive was 1 January 1978.

Background: This Directive was raised in response to Cessna SL ME77-6, which introduced repair instructions for use in the event of loose or working lower wing skin/front spar attach rivets. This amendment is raised to ensure ongoing inspections; due to the difficulty in identifying replaced rivets, and likely deterioration of bonding.
