What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD/CESSNA 207/39) mandates inspection and, if necessary, rectification of the alternate static air source selector valve on Cessna 207 series aeroplanes. It applies specifically to aeroplanes that have had an alternate static air source selector valve, part number (P/N) 2013142-18, installed after 19 November 2007. The valves affected were manufactured between 20 November 2007 and 18 February 2008. The directive originates from a quality control discovery at Cessna that the part number identification placard was installed on the valve body in a location that covers the port which is the inlet for static air reference into the valve. The FAA notified CASA, which then issued this AD with a variation to allow operators to check maintenance records rather than performing a physical inspection in all cases.
Mechanically, the AD requires one of two actions for aeroplanes listed in Table 1 of the directive (all Cessna 207 serial numbers). Option (a): physically inspect the alternate static air source selector valve in accordance with Requirement 3. Option (b): inspect the aeroplane’s maintenance records to determine if the valve has been replaced since 19 November 2007 with P/N 2013142-18. If the valve has not been replaced, no further action is necessary. If the records check reveals that the affected part was installed, then the physical inspection under Requirement 3 must be performed. The physical inspection involves adjusting the pilot and copilot seats as far aft as possible, then using a flashlight and mirror to inspect the valve to assure that the port on the forward end is clearly visible and not covered by the placard. If the port is obstructed, the placard must be removed from the valve body, discarded, and the port checked to be open and unobstructed. For valves installed as modification or replacement parts on or after the effective date of the directive, the inspection must be performed prior to installation.
