Background: In 1970, aviation safety regulators issued a rule requiring a one-time replacement of specific lock nuts (called NAS 679s) installed on Cessna 207 aircraft between April and November 1969. These nuts had a suspected manufacturing flaw that could affect the control systems.

Why it matters: Because this rule was issued nearly 40 years ago, authorities are confident all affected nuts have long since been replaced.
