What it does
This instrument is an airworthiness directive (AD) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) that mandates inspection and, where necessary, removal or temporary placarding related to the alternate static air source selector valve part number (P/N) 2013142-18 fitted to a defined set of Cessna 206-series aeroplanes. The AD identifies the affected fleet by model (Table 1) and by a date-and-part-number rule: aeroplanes initially delivered from the manufacturer between 1 January 1993 and 31 March 2008 are captured, unless they have already had the modification/rework required by AD/CESSNA 206/65 and remain in compliance with that AD; similarly, any aeroplane that had P/N 2013142-18 installed as a replacement part after 1 January 1993 is captured, subject to the same exception (Applicability, first paragraphs). Note 1 to the Applicability confirms that the affected valves were shipped from Cessna Parts Distribution between 1 January 1993 and 31 March 2008; Note 2 records that P/N 2013142-18 replaced P/Ns 2013142-9, -13 and -17.
Mechanically, the AD requires five discrete actions (Requirements 1-5). In sequence and in summary these are:
- Requirement 1: For non-IFR-equipped aeroplanes in the applicability group, inspect the alternate static air source selector valve to ensure the part number identification placard is not obstructing the valve port.
- Requirement 2: For IFR-equipped aeroplanes, either (a) inspect the valve for placard obstruction (same as Requirement 1) within a shorter compliance window, or (b) if immediate inspection is not practicable, fabricate and install a temporary panel placard stating, in letters at least 1/8-inch high, "IFR OPERATION IS PROHIBITED" and "USE OF THE ALTERNATE STATIC AIR SOURCE IS PROHIBITED", positioned within the pilot’s clear view on the instrument panel.
