Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This rule requires owners of specific Cessna 188 agricultural aircraft to install protective covers in the forward baggage compartment to prevent damage to fuel and electrical systems.

Who it affects: Owners of Cessna Model A188 aircraft (commonly called 'Agwagons'), except those with a serial number ending in 'T'.

Why it matters: Loose items in the baggage area can shift during flight and damage critical fuel lines or electrical equipment. The protective covers act as a physical barrier.

What you must do: Install the covers within 100 hours of flight time after 31 August 1970. If your aircraft already complies with earlier versions of this directive (AD/CESSNA 188/9 or Amendment 1), you don't need to do anything further.

Technical detail: This update (Amendment 3) clarifies which specific aircraft configurations are covered, distinguishing between the 'Agwagon' and 'Agtruck' variants.
