Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory aviation safety rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) requiring specific Cessna agricultural aircraft to undergo maintenance on their engine control cables.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Cessna Model A188B/A1 "Agwagon" aircraft with serial numbers 18800833 through 18801629, plus aircraft 18801643 and 18801644, provided they have Continental IO-520D engines installed.

What must be done: The throttle and mixture control cable attachments must be inspected and repaired according to Cessna Service Letter SE74-20. These cables connect the cockpit controls to the engine—if they fail, the pilot cannot control engine power or fuel mixture.

When: Within 100 hours of flight time after 30 September 1976.

Why it matters: This prevents potential engine control failures that could lead to loss of power during flight, particularly critical for agricultural aircraft operating at low altitudes.
