Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A safety directive requiring owners of Cessna 188 agricultural aircraft (Agwagons) to regularly inspect and replace the aileron control cables—the wires connecting the pilot's controls to the wing surfaces that make the plane turn.

Who it affects: Anyone operating Cessna 188 series aircraft.

What you must do:

The rules split based on whether your plane has been modified with specific factory service kits (Cessna Service Kit SK 188-25 or Rex Aviation Drawing RA-C-1175):

For unmodified aircraft:

Inspect cables every 100 hours of flight time
Replace cables every 500 hours of flight time

For modified aircraft:

Inspect cables every 100 hours while installed
Remove and visually inspect the entire cable length before reaching 500 hours, then every 100 hours thereafter until replaced
Permanently retire (replace) cables every 800 hours

All work must follow the technical procedures in Cessna Service Letter SE73-12.
