Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a mandatory safety instruction (called an Airworthiness Directive) for owners of specific Cessna 185 aircraft.

Who it affects:

Owners and operators of Cessna Model 185 aeroplanes with serial numbers between 18502998 and 18503018 (a specific production batch)

What it requires:

These aircraft must undergo maintenance work regarding self-locking nuts (special nuts designed to stay tight under vibration without additional locking devices) following the exact instructions in Cessna Service Letter SE77-44, Item 1.

When it must be done:

Within 100 hours of flight time after 30 April 1978.

Why it matters:

Self-locking nuts prevent bolts from loosening due to engine vibration and movement. If they fail, critical components could detach during flight. This directive mandates a fix for a specific batch of aircraft that may have defective or improperly installed nuts.
