Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive applies to all Cessna 185 series aircraft and mandates a specific safety inspection to prevent structural failure.

What must be done:

Inspect the rivets attaching the lower aileron (the movable flap on the wing that controls roll) skin to the balance weight for corrosion
If corrosion is suspected under the rivet heads, attempt to remove them using a light sharp sideways blow with a screwdriver
Replace any damaged or corroded rivets immediately

When:

First inspection within 100 hours of flight time after 29 September 1972
Repeated at intervals not exceeding 100 hours of flight time thereafter

This is a mandatory maintenance requirement designed to ensure the aileron remains properly balanced and attached during flight.
