Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This instrument formally scraps a 38-year-old aircraft safety rule.

What it does It cancels Airworthiness Directive (AD) 185/15, which since 1970 had required owners of Cessna 185 series aeroplanes to replace specific lock nuts on their control systems.

Why it matters The original rule targeted a suspected manufacturing flaw in NAS 679 lock nuts installed during April–November 1969. Because all affected nuts would have been replaced during routine maintenance long before 2008, the safety risk no longer exists. This cancellation removes the obsolete legal obligation.

Who is affected Owners and operators of Cessna 185 aircraft. In practice, no action is required—the directive simply ceases to have effect from 14 February 2008.

AD/CESSNA 185/15	Control Systems	2/2008

Requirement:	CANCELLED.
This AD is cancelled on 14 February 2008.
Background:	This is a unique Australian AD issued in 1970 requiring a once off replacement of a number of NAS 679 lock nuts installed on Cessna aircraft between April and November in 1969.
