What it does
This instrument is an Airworthiness Directive (AD) labelled AD/CESSNA 180/95, titled Intercooler and Associated Hoses, issued as 4/2009 DM by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). It mandates physical modifications, inspections and part prohibitions for a narrow set of aeroplanes: Cessna Models 182Q and 182R fitted with a Societé de Motorisations Aéronautiques (SMA) aircraft diesel engine (ADE) Model SR305-230-1 installed under Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) SA03302AT, or with an SR305-230 converted to SR305-230-1 by incorporation of SMA Service Bulletin SB-01-76-002 installed under the same STC (see the Applicability row).
Mechanically, the AD requires removal of an original intercooler identified as part number (P/N) SF01170004-0 and installation of a reworked intercooler P/N SF01170004-1, and removal and replacement of the intercooler inlet and outlet hoses with specified new hose part numbers (intercooler inlet hose P/N SF01170083-0 and intercooler outlet hose P/N SF01170048-0). The AD also mandates inspection of the intercooler inlet and outlet hoses and their clamps for displacement and re-torquing of clamps, and specifies corrective action where displacement or damage is found, including replacing damaged clamps and hoses (see Requirement 1 through Requirement 5 in the Requirement row).
Timing is specified in the Compliance row. The primary hardware change (Requirement 1) must be done before further flight after the effective date. Follow-up inspections and corrective action are time-limited: initial inspections within 25 hours time-in-service (TIS) or within 100 hours TIS/12 months depending on the requirement, with recurring inspection intervals not to exceed 100 hours TIS or 12 months (whichever occurs first) for the recurring inspection. The AD positively forbids future installation of the original intercooler P/N SF01170004-0 (Requirement 5). For procedural detail, operators are referred to SMA SAFRAN Group Service Bulletin SB-C182-75-004, Revision No. Basic Issue, dated 8 July 2008, which "provides the instructions for compliance with Requirements 1 through 4" and whose later FAA-approved revisions may be used as an alternate method of compliance (AMOC) (see Requirement text and Note).
