Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive requires operators of specified Cessna 180/182 and Wren 460 aeroplanes (serial numbers listed in Cessna SB SEB86-8 Rev 1) to inspect the upper shoulder-harness adjuster (P/N 443030-401) for a small retainer spring, remove and deface the part if the spring is present, and record compliance. It also bars fitting accessory kits that haven’t been inspected and modified as required.

The manufacturer says the change prevents harness slippage; aircraft owners/operators must arrange and pay for the inspection or modification within 25 flight hours or by the next annual inspection (Requirement; Compliance).

AD/CESSNA 180/85 (continued)

Background: The manufacturer determined that some of the shoulder harness belt adjusters included in the affected shoulder harness accessory kits may have had a small wire spring inadvertently installed on the belt friction pin. The actions required by this Directive are intended to prevent slippage of the pilot/co-pilot shoulder harness, which could result in failure of the shoulder harness to maintain proper belt length adjustment and tension.
