What this does

This safety directive mandates inspections and potential replacement of defective brass turnbuckles in aircraft flight control systems to prevent mechanical failure.

Who it affects

Owners and operators of specific Cessna aircraft models: 180, 182, F182, FR182, and R182 with serial numbers in the listed ranges (approximately 18052791 to R18201262).

The safety issue

Certain AN 155 brass turnbuckles (connector components in the control cables) may develop longitudinal cracks radiating from their ends. These cracks could weaken the flight control system, potentially leading to loss of aircraft control.

What must be done

Operators must follow the inspection and repair procedures outlined in Cessna Service Information Letter No. SE 80-16 (an external technical document).

Compliance requirement

The corrective action must be completed within 100 hours of flight time after the specified compliance date.
