AD/CESSNA 177/8 - Control Systems - CANCELLED

This document cancels an old aviation safety rule that applied to Cessna 177 series aeroplanes (light aircraft).

What it does:

• Cancels Airworthiness Directive (AD) number 177/8, effective 14 February 2008
• This means aircraft owners and mechanics no longer need to follow the old rule

The old rule (from 1970):

• Required a one-time replacement of specific lock nuts (NAS 679) on control systems
• These nuts were installed between April and November 1969 and had a manufacturing defect that could affect flight safety

Why it's being cancelled:

• Nearly 40 years have passed since the faulty nuts were installed
• All affected nuts would have been replaced by now through normal maintenance
• The unsafe condition no longer exists, so the rule is unnecessary

Who this affects:

• Owners and operators of Cessna 177 series aircraft
• Aircraft maintenance engineers
