AD/CESSNA 170/3 - Nose Wheel Strut - CANCELLED

This document cancels a 49-year-old aircraft safety rule that applied to specific Cessna aeroplane models (170, 172, F172, FR172 and 175 series).

What the old rule required: The original 1959 directive required owners to install a large washer on the nose wheel strut (the shock-absorbing front landing gear leg). This washer stopped the steering arm assembly from slipping down the strut barrel, which could cause loss of steering control.

What this document does: It formally ends the requirement as of 13 March 2008. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority cancelled the rule because nearly all affected aircraft would have been modified by now, meaning the unsafe condition no longer exists in operational planes.
