Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety order (Airworthiness Directive) requiring immediate action on specific Cessna aeroplanes to prevent loss of control.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Reims-built (French-manufactured) Cessna 150 and 152 aircraft with serial numbers FA1520390 to FA1520425 and F15201966 to F15201980.

What you must do: Inspect and repair the elevator torque tube (the metal shaft connecting the pilot's control yoke to the elevator, which controls the aircraft's up-and-down movement) following the manufacturer's Service Bulletin SEB 87-9.

Why it matters: Some torque tubes were manufactured with cracked or incomplete welds. If this component fails in flight, the pilot could lose control of the aircraft's pitch, potentially causing a crash.

When you must comply: Before the aircraft can be flown again after its next scheduled inspection for Maintenance Release (the safety certificate required to legally fly) occurring after 24 March 1988.
