Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety order (called an Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for specific aerobatic aircraft.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of CAP 10B model aircraft (French-built aerobatic planes).

What it requires: You must permanently remove from service ("retire") the front tank support strap — a metal strap that secures the fuel tank — once the aircraft accumulates 4,000 flight hours on that part. You must follow the specific technical instructions in Apex Aircraft Service Bulletin No. 040102 (dated 10 May 2004).

Why it matters: A front tank support strap failed on a CAP 10B aircraft, creating a dangerous condition (risk of fuel tank movement or detachment). CASA imposed a strict "life limit" to prevent catastrophic failures.

When: The directive took effect on 8 July 2004.
