Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This is an urgent safety order requiring operators of specific Eurocopter BO 105 helicopters to inspect and repair a mechanical defect in the swashplate — the component that translates pilot control stick movements into rotor blade adjustments.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Eurocopter BO 105 helicopters fitted with swashplate part number 105-41904 and specific bearing ring part numbers (105-41936.01, 117-41937.01, or 117-41936.01).

What must happen: Operators must follow the exact technical instructions in MBB Alert Service Bulletin ASB-BO 105-40-101 to fix a dangerous interference problem between the swashplate and its drive link assembly that can occur during certain flight maneuvers.

When: This required immediate action — the repair had to be completed within 25 flight hours after 24 June 1987, or before 31 July 1987 (whichever came first). This tight deadline reflects a serious safety threat that demanded urgent compliance back in 1987.
