Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

Owners and operators of Pilatus Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander aircraft must inspect the engine control pivot shaft (P/N NB-47-B-069) at its engine-console connection to confirm a drilled hole, plain washers, and a retaining split pin are installed per the manufacturer’s parts figure.

If any feature is missing, drill the shaft and fit washers and a split pin immediately to prevent the shaft sliding out during taxiing, which can collapse control levers and cause loss of engine control. Complete within 50 flight hours.

AD/BN-2/46 Engine Control Shaft - Inspection NK

Applicability: All models.

Requirement: 1. Inspect the right hand end of the engine control pivot shaft P/N NB-47-B-069 in the engine console for presence of a drilled hole, plain washers and a retaining splitpin as per Fig. 3, Section 5.1/8 of Britten Norman Parts Catalogue.

If undrilled, drill shaft and fit washers and splitpin as per Fig. 3, Section 5.1/8 of above parts catalogue.

Compliance: Within 50 hours time in service after 4 June 1980.

Background: Due to absence of a drilled hole and retaining splitpin, an engine control pivot shaft became partially withdrawn from the engine console during taxi, causing collapse of control levers and friction discs.
