Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This airworthiness directive requires operators of certain Bell 47 helicopter variants fitted with main rotor grip P/N 47-120-252-11 to visually check the grip serial number and, if it appears on the listed list, remove and replace it with a serviceable part. Compliance must occur within 50 flight hours after 12 January 1992. The measure follows FAA reports that a vendor bypassed approved quality controls and distributed 156 potentially unsafe grips. The immediate costs fall on aircraft owners/operators (inspection, replacement parts and downtime).
