Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety order (Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for owners and operators of Bell 47 helicopters.

What it requires: You must inspect and take corrective action regarding a specific main rotor grip part (Part Number 47-120-252-11) before flying the helicopter after 31 July 1989. The exact inspection steps and remedies are contained in Bell Helicopter Service Bulletin 47-89-15.

Why it matters: These specific parts are counterfeit — they were manufactured and distributed without Bell Helicopter's quality assurance or official aviation authority approval (called an FAA PMA). These illegal "bogus" parts are unsafe and could fail, causing the main rotor blade to separate from the helicopter with potentially fatal consequences.

Who it affects: All operators of any Bell 47 series helicopter variant that may have this counterfeit part installed.
