Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This Airworthiness Directive (a mandatory safety order) requires owners and operators of Bell 47 helicopters to inspect or replace a faulty metal bracket called the stabiliser bar damper frame clamp.

Who it affects: Anyone operating Bell 47 helicopters fitted with specific part numbers 47-140-134-001 or 47-140-134-1001. This now includes both Bell Helicopter Textron models and Kawasaki-Bell variants.

What you must do: Check or replace the clamp within 25 hours of flight time after 30 September 1981.

Why it matters: The manufacturer reported eight known failures of this clamp. If the clamp breaks, it can compromise the rotor stabilisation system, potentially leading to loss of flight control.
