Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This directive requires owners or operators of specific Bell 47 helicopters (Model 47G-3-B1) to fix a fire hazard linked to the fuel quantity gauge system.

Who it affects: Anyone operating or maintaining a Bell 47G-3-B1 helicopter equipped with a Stewart Warner type 439212 fuel gauge.

What you must do: You have two options to comply:

Option 1: Replace the existing fuel gauge with a "vapour-proof" type that is approved by the Secretary (the relevant CASA official); or
Option 2: Modify the existing Stewart Warner gauge by replacing its connecting lead with multi-strand wire that is correctly terminated, and secure the gauge unit so it cannot loosen due to vibration.

When: Immediately (the directive uses the term "forthwith," meaning without delay).
