What it does
This document is an Airworthiness Directive (AD) issued for Bell Helicopter Textron Canada (BHTC) Model 430 series helicopters, serial numbers 49001 through 49105. The AD identifies two tail rotor counterweight bellcrank part numbers, 222-012-727-003 and 222-012-727-105 (without prefix letters), as potentially having manufacturing discrepancies that "can result in an in-flight failure" (Background). It requires operators to identify installed bellcrank part numbers, perform an initial inspection, carry out repeating inspections until the affected parts are removed from service, and to remove affected parts from service according to specific manufacturer Alert Service Bulletins (ASBs). The AD becomes effective on 19 August 2005 (effective date) and is signed by a delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, James Coyne (signature date 17 August 2005).
Mechanically, the AD sets out three compliance tracks: (1) identification of part number and routing to the correct follow-up action; (2) inspection of the tail rotor counterweight bellcrank per Part I of BHTC ASB 430-04-32 Revision A; and (3) removal from service of the specified bellcrank part numbers in accordance with Part II of ASB 430-04-32 Revision A (for PN 222-012-727-105) or ASB 430-04-30 Revision B (for PN 222-012-727-003). It also contains two notes: Note 1 states that PN 222-012-727-105 with added prefix letters inscribed on the part before the serial number satisfies the requirement of the Directive; Note 2 refers to Transport Canada AD CF-2005-27. The AD prescribes timing: identification and initial inspection within 10 flight hours after 19 August 2005; repeat inspections at intervals not to exceed 50 flight hours until the affected part is removed; and removal from service of affected parts before 1 April 2006.
The AD therefore creates a mandatory, time‑sensitive inspection-and-removal obligation tied to specific part numbers and serial-numbered airframes, and it links the required corrective actions to named manufacturer ASBs and a Transport Canada AD.
